Kia ora e te whānau, REAP Marlborough have asked us to do a Māori myths and legends tour of the Wairau Lagoons. It will take place this Saturday, 19 September, and will be led Nga Pakiaka guides, Lewis Smith and Keelan Walker.

The tour will start from the lagoon walkway car park at the end of Hardings Rd at 1 pm and end up back there around 3 pm.

The tour was full but several people have pulled out and so there are some spaces available.

Really interesting kōrero here about how indigenous knowledge and explanations of how the world works can combine with modern science to compliment each other, thus providing a more complete picture to us.

A good example of this is the research done by Professors Lisa Matisoo-Smith, Richard Walters and Hallie Buckley at the Wairau Bar in recent years in regards to archaeology and DNA.

Take some time to watch it.
